Business model innovation in social purpose organizations: Conceptualizing dual social-economic value creation

Faced with competition and resource constraints, nonprofit social purpose organizations (SPOs) are increasingly pursuing business model innovation (BMI) to progress their dual – economic value-creation focus. Reflecting this interest, the BMI literature in SPO context has grown significance, yet remains fragmented need of a conceptual framework facilitate development unified body knowledge. Addressing need, our captures antecedents moderators driving shaping BMI-based creation SPOs. We theorize that SPOs build learning capabilities will provide new knowledge configurations undertake achieve greater value creation. While process is driven by focus perceived environmental uncertainty, set internal external factors moderate suggested relationship between discuss implications for theory, future research, practice.
